Song: Rest Stop
Artists: Matchbox 20
Lyrics:
"I don't wanna be cold
I don't wanna be cruel
But I gotta find more
Than what's happening with you
If you'd - open up the door.."
Rest Stop
By Kat Garcia (Heard It In A Song)
She suddenly got off the freeway at the rest stop, parked the car and turned it off. They were somewhere in between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. It really didn't matter. He was not sure he had heard just what she had said correctly. The silence between them was deafening.
So numb that he felt paralyzed to the point of not being able to comprehend, understand or respond to what she had just said. He stared out the window into the darkness, and at first he just sat there feeling like his soul was leaving his body and he was in the corner, observing..watching himself as a wave of unrepairable pain washed over him.
He tried to say something, but his voice started to crack and he stopped. 'No moon tonight' He thought to himself. Why he made this observation now made no sense to him, but he did know that he might use that when he writes his next song. He drifted into his thoughts for a moment.
"I need you to repeat that" he asked her. She repeated it, "I don't wanna be cold, I don't wanna be cruel. But I gotta find more than what's happening with you..open up the door and gather your things please."
She had done it. She had broken up with him. After 3 years together - she had enough. He had made promises to her that he could not keep, and he could not and would not give up his dreams. She was not the first woman to give up on him, and it was very likely would not be the last. He was a musician and someday he hoped and believed that he would be a successful one. He could never work a 9-5.
He didn't respond. He just sat there for a minute, lit a cigarette and got out of the car. He turned his back to her and she started the car and left. He never saw her again.
Years later, he and his band did find major success. He had learned a lot and took the incident as an experience he could write about.
